BUILT · Building Urban Infrastructure through Learning and Technology
BUILT
BUILT proposes four industry centres that turn the Wuthering Wall's construction needs into lasting expertise in concrete, steel and manufacturing, cut-and-cover, and rolling stock.
01 — The proposal
One identity, independent centres
BUILT is a permanent shared identity and research-minded attitude. Industries would establish and govern their own centres of excellence. Each would combine research, testing, demonstrators, training and coordination in the balance its sector needs.
A balanced consortium and small secretariat would maintain the identity and research pledge. The proposed umbrella has no procurement, delivery or regulatory powers.
BUILT Concrete
Concrete focuses on repeatable high-volume construction. The intended flagship geography is the Peak District, linked to West Yorkshire live construction, testing and training, and to member factories and laboratories.
BUILT Steel and Manufacturing
This centre develops capability from metal to installed system. Sheffield–Rotherham is the intended flagship geography, with West Yorkshire assembly and live-project spokes.
BUILT Cut-and-Cover
The cut-and-cover centre treats shallow urban construction as one connected problem. Manchester is the intended flagship geography, with Leeds and active Wuthering Wall sites as proposed spokes.
BUILT Rolling Stock
Rolling stock begins with deep knowledge of one mature modular Metro platform. The intended flagship geography is Goole and East Yorkshire, with Huddersfield, West Yorkshire research, depots, testing and operations as proposed spokes.
